Sometimes being pampered with luxury is more than a desire, it’s an outright need. When you’re feeling this pull, the best thing you can do is hop in the car and drive into the mountains to spend some quality time in Tahoe. To give you an idea of what to expect, we spent the day touring Northstar and The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe, discovering all the best spots to enjoy some much needed R&R.
When you arrive at Northstar, the first thing you notice is the architecture in the Village. The Village Hosts greet you with a smile before entering a European-inspired space of high rock walls hiding a surprising number of shops and restaurants. After you check in and get settled, Starbucks is the required first stop. Sit by the window and watch the bustle of the Village or gather in the back with your friends and just catch up on life.
There’s so much great shopping in the Village, especially if you’re looking for fashionable, high-quality outdoor gear. Browse for awhile, treat yourself to something nice, then drop the goods in your room and go to Balance for a peaceful massage or spa session. Vinyasa Flow Yoga is also available here on Wednesdays and weekends if you’re interested.
With the stress of regular life released from your body, change into something fancy and jump on Highlands View Gondola. This comfortable enclosed lift delivers you right to the doorsteps of The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe. Grab a bite at Backyard Bar & BBQ if the weather’s nice, or Manzanita if there’s a storm brewing. Before you know it, the afternoon has disappeared and the sun is setting over the ski runs above. Take the gondola back down to the Village for dinner at Tavern 6330′.
Tavern offers “mountain American grill inspired by California farm fresh ingredients.” The wine and micro-brew lists are extensive, the cocktails are wonderful, and with its location at the bottom of Village Run, this is a great spot to close out the day with everyone coming down off the mountain.
For after-dinner drinks, we recommend Chocolate Bar or Petra. Chocolate Bar has a fun, upscale vibe and is a natural progression from Tavern 6330′ with gourmet desserts, wine, spirits, and custom chocolate cocktails. The winos will move on to Petra, a beautiful wine bar with a fresh spirit and a bountiful selection of local and imported wines.
When it’s all said and done, return to your room and gaze at the stars for awhile before falling asleep so you can do it all over again tomorrow.
